Warrant Division
Division Commander: Lt. Marshall Bennett
The Warrants Division is staffed by three deputies and two NCIC Technicians. The Sheriff's Office receives criminal warrants issued by the Rockingham Superior Court and civil warrants from courts throughout the state. As the warrants are received, an NCIC Technician enters them into the appropriate databases and researches their past criminal involvements. Deputies are assigned the warrants after they are entered into the system, and it is the responsibility of that Deputy to locate and apprehend individuals wanted by this agency.
On a regular schedule, the NCIC Technicians “validate” all warrants that are held by the Warrants Division. This process is a continued investigation process to assist the deputies in trying to locate and apprehend individuals and to ensure that the information contained within the warrant is as current as possible. The NCIC Technicians also communicate with the holding facilities and prosecution agencies in other states when individuals are arrested on a Rockingham warrant outside of New Hampshire.
When authorized by the Rockingham County Attorney's Office, Deputies travel to other states extraditing fugitives back to New Hampshire. The extradition limits are set by the County Attorney's Office and are generally based upon the nature of the underlying offense.
Additionally, Warrants Deputies handle the "Fugitive from Justice" complaints on individuals housed at the Rockingham County Jail. Detainers are filed at the jail on defendants wanted by other states. Deputies assigned to the division are also available to assist any Local, State or Federal agency with a warrant service.
